The De Notaris Collection consists of 359 books and 503 pamphlets that the botanist gathered throughout his life.
The work of identifying and arranging the books and pamphlets belonging to Giuseppe De Notaris in a space dedicated to him began many years ago. The first problem to solve was determining which books in the Library had belonged to De Notaris; hence the need to create a topographic catalogue, go through all the books, and identify the copies bearing the ownership stamp DNTRS.
Afterwards, a suitable space was found in which to reassemble the Collection, involving a partial reorganization of some areas and materials of the Library, the purchase of new furnishings, and the choice of an appropriate shelving system. Today the books are arranged according to their size-based classification. The catalogue cards of the time were written on paper and still exist.
Starting in the 2000s, we began entering the books into the electronic catalogue and digitizing the works, in order to make them accessible online and preserve the originals.
The presentation of the Collection is included among the “Exhibitions Held” on the MOVIO (Online Virtual Exhibitions) project page of the Central Institute for the Union Catalogue of Italian Libraries.
