The library collection of the Italian Institute of Anthropology (ISItA) was formed over a very long period (since 1893, the year the Institute was founded by Giuseppe Sergi) and has been primarily enriched through the numerous study and research contacts maintained by the Institute’s members with universities and associations worldwide, through which countless monographs and periodicals have been acquired over time through exchange.
Research in national and international collective catalogues shows, by comparing ISItA’s holdings with those of other Italian libraries, the bibliographic value of this collection.
The geographical origin and linguistic coverage of the bibliographic units make it a collection of international character.
The holdings include approximately 2,600 monographs, many of which are part of editorial series published by the world’s most prestigious universities, and over 900 periodicals, notable for their completeness (for many, more than one hundred volumes are held) and their rare availability in Italy. The disciplinary coverage reflects the evolution of anthropological sciences in the 20th century.
The international distribution of the journal published by the Italian Institute of Anthropology, Journal of Anthropological Sciences (JASs), ensures a continual growth and updating of the collection through editorial exchanges.
